Lucky Ducky Panel Quilt
All Seam allowances are 1/4" unless otherwise noted.
Press all seams towards the dark fabric
Sew the 4 ½" blocks together (4 across and 6 down) in any order you wish.
Cut the sides (the pre-pieced sides) of the panel 3 3/4" x LOF Cut one bottom piece into 2 - 2
3/4" x 6 1/4" strips. Cut out the duck and star from the panel be sure to cut 1/4 - ½" away from the black line. Cut the Baby part of the block 6 1/4" x 12 1/4"
On the duck sew a 5 x 5 white square onto the feet (sew on the black line.) Make sure that the white is on top and they are right sides together. Clip the round seams and turn.
Sew the duck and the star onto the pieced background.
Fold the 1 ½" strips in half with wrong sides together. Sew strips around the pieced background.
Sew the blue or pink 3 x 17" strips to the top and bottom of the pieced background.
Sew the 2 pieces that cut from the panel (2 3/4" x 6 1/4") to the sides of the baby block. Sew the remaining blue or pink 3 x 17" strip to the top of the baby block, then sew this to the pieced background.
Sew the 2 - 3" strips to the sides of the now pieced portion of the quilt. Cut off any excess.
Sew the 2 - 3 3/4" panel strips to the sides of the pieced portion of the quilt.
Sew on border # 1
For the pieced border sew 7 (boy) 8 (girl) strips together in any order you wish. You can either subcut into 2 ½" strips, or make all of the squares different sizes, ie. Cut 4 - 2 ½", 3 - 3", 5 - 4 ½", etc.
Sew 3 strips together lengthwise repeat 2 times for each side. Sew one lengthwise strip to another make sure to switch fabric orders (move one up or down, or turn strip around.) Repeat for each side and top and bottom. Cut off any excess squares.
Sew the last border on to the outside of the pieced border.
Sandwich your quilt, quilt and bind to finish.
